Lodge Activities & Experiences

Throughout the journey, we stay at a collection of exceptional lodges, reserves, and conservancies that offer unique opportunities to experience Namibia beyond the bike.

Many of these activities are included as part of your RAID experience, while others are optional and subject to availability. Several have very limited guest capacity and require advance reservations. If you are interested in participating in any optional activity, please contact RAID as early as possible so we can arrange reservations on your behalf.

Okonjima Nature Reserve

Home to the AfriCat Foundation and one of Namibia’s leading conservation success stories, Okonjima offers rare access to wildlife, researchers, and conservation professionals working on the front lines of species protection.

Game Drive (Included)

A classic Okonjima experience. Join expert guides as they explore the reserve, sharing insights into the area’s wildlife, ecology, and more than three decades of conservation research. Unlike many reserves, the focus here is not simply finding animals—it’s understanding the landscape and the conservation work taking place within it.

Rhino Tracking by Bike (Included)

One of the most unique experiences on the entire journey. Accompanied by Okonjima’s anti-poaching team, we ride into the reserve in search of white rhino. There are no tracking collars or guarantees—just skilled trackers, bicycles, and the opportunity to experience one of Africa’s most endangered animals on its own terms.

Leopard Tracking (Included)

Okonjima is home to one of Namibia’s longest-running leopard research projects. Working alongside reserve guides, guests participate in the search for wild leopards while learning about AfriCat’s ongoing research and monitoring efforts. Encounters are never guaranteed, but few places in Africa offer a better opportunity to understand these elusive predators.

Nocturnal Game Drive (Optional)

As darkness falls, the reserve comes alive. Join an evening safari in search of species rarely seen during daylight hours, including aardwolf, bat-eared fox, porcupine, honey badger, brown hyena, and leopard. Weather dependent and booked locally based on conditions.

Pangolin Tracking (Optional)

Perhaps the rarest wildlife experience available in Namibia. Accompanied by researchers, guides, and dedicated pangolin guardians, guests track the critically threatened Temminck’s Ground Pangolin on foot. Conducted in small groups and subject to availability, this experience offers a unique window into the life of one of Africa’s most mysterious animals. Maximum six guests per departure.

This format will work perfectly when you start adding sections for Rooisand, Desert Hills, Namibgrens, TimBila, etc. It keeps the copy concise, aspirational, and easy for guests to scan.

Ai-Aiba Rock Painting Lodge

Set among the granite towers of the Erongo Mountains, Ai-Aiba offers a rare opportunity to explore both Namibia’s natural history and its human history. Ancient rock art, dramatic landscapes, and meaningful cultural encounters make this one of the most unique stops on the journey.

Walking with the San & Ancient Rock Art (Included)

Ai-Aiba offers a rare opportunity to connect with both the landscape and the people who have called it home for thousands of years. Accompanied by members of the San community, we walk through the granite valleys of the Erongo Mountains while learning traditional skills such as tracking, hunting, fire-making, and finding food and water in this harsh environment.

Along the way, we visit remarkable rock art sites created by hunter-gatherers thousands of years ago. Set among towering granite formations, these ancient paintings offer a glimpse into the lives, beliefs, and movements of Namibia’s earliest inhabitants. This is more than a cultural visit—it’s an opportunity to walk through living history with the descendants of the people who created it.

Guided Mountain Bike Tours & E-Bikes (Included)

Ai-Aiba offers some of Namibia’s most surprising mountain biking. Purpose-built trails weave through granite corridors, open plains, and rocky outcrops beneath the imposing peaks of the Erongo Mountains. The riding emphasizes flow, scenery, and exploration rather than technical difficulty, making it accessible to a wide range of riders.

Accompanied by experienced local guides, guests can explore deeper into this extraordinary landscape while gaining insight into its geology, wildlife, and history. Wildlife sightings are common, with giraffe, kudu, gemsbok, baboons, and other species often appearing along the trails. Few places in Namibia offer such a unique combination of riding, ancient landscapes, wildlife, and cultural history.
